Our Top 10 Must-Have Scandinavian Kitchen Items

Here at Maverick, we are huge fans of all things Scandi....can you tell? It may be slightly obvious from one quick glance across our shop. We can't resist the elegant, clean lines, the softness, the simplicity, and the slightly retro vibe that you get with Scandinavian design. That's why we are proud stockists of the Danish company, Stelton, who produce incredibly beautiful home and kitchenware.

We've scoured the internet to find our favourite Scandi kitchen must-haves, so here's our top 10:

1. Theo 'Slow Brew' Coffee Brewer

Made in matt black stoneware with a shiny glaze the Theo coffee maker is both rustic and elegant. If you really enjoy and appreciate a 'proper' cup of coffee, then this method is the one to use. It has a nice slow run-through time as there are only 3 holes at the bottom, meaning a richer, more intense coffee experience. It comes with 3 pieces, the main body which holds 0.6L, the filter funnel and a bamboo lid to help keep your coffee warm. It also has a handy silicone neck for heat protection and a good grip. A truly beautiful piece of Scandinavian design which would look stunning in any kitchen.

The Theo 'Slow Brew' Coffee Brewer is available in our shop.

2. Kähler's Hammershøi Cup

Simplicity at it's best, these adorable little ceramic cups from Kähler's Hammershøi Tabelware are so ergonomically friendly, both a joy to hold and drink from. The little ridges add a classic look to the cups, drawing your eye from top to bottom. These come in a variety of neutral colours that will complement any kitchen.

You can find these lovely little cups at the Kähler website.

3. The Georg Jensen Beak Thermo Jug

Just how important does this jug look? The King of the table! It's soft, rounded form is aerodynamic and elegant. I think you can safely say that it is a stand-out piece of tableware. The Beak is designed with functionality in mind with the pouring system minimising drips and spills, and a push-button feature optimises liquid flow. The 1L thermo jug comes in black, off-white or warm grey and can be used to serve hot or cold drinks.

You can buy the Georg Jensen Beak Thermo Jug directly from the designer's website.

4. Stelton Collar Coffee Grinder

Tried and tested by us at Maverick HQ, use the Collar Coffee Grinder to grind your own coffee beans by hand. There's something so satisfying about grinding by hand, isn't there? We love the black and gold combo too...well who doesn't love a bit of gold?

The Collar Coffee Grinder is available to buy in our shop.

5. The Grand Cru Salt Cellar

The Grand Cru Salt cellar from Rosendahl is a classic porcelain cellar with an oak spoon. The outer surface area is glazed with a matte-finish and is paired with a shiny-finish inner surface. The beautiful rounded shape has a flat bottom which sits elegantly on the kitchen worktop and the wide opening means it's easy to reach for the salt while cooking.

You can buy the Grand Cru Salt Cellar from The Scandinavian Design Center.

6. Viva Scandinavia Coffee Cups

Designed with a soft curve that fits perfectly in the hand and a double wall that retains heat, the Viva Scandinavia Coffee Cups will keep your coffee warm for longer. We love the white because it adds a contemporary look, and they have a slightly rough, textured feel to them, giving them a lovely rustic edge.

You can buy these cups from our shop.

7. Kähler's Hammershøi Pepper Grinder

This is another beauty from Kahler Hammershoi and is from the same range as the cup featured in number 2. This Oak grinder has a stunning, grooved ceramic top which not only looks beautiful, it also improves the grip on the smooth porcelain while you're grinding your pepper. We love the combination of porcelain and oak with the cool, neutral colours.

You can buy this grinder from Blomster Designs.

8. The Stelton EM French Press

Probably the most beautiful French Press we've ever come across. The eye-catching EM press coffee maker, designed by Erik Magnussen, brews up to 8 cups of coffee. It's double walls and simple open/close function keeps the coffee hot for a long time. To serve, grasp the knob and turn the lid open; close by turning the lid back.

The EM French Press is available in our shop and comes in dusty green, ultramarine and white.

9. SKAGERAK VE2 Nordic Bowl

We know it's just a bowl, but we were drawn to it. The soft pastel blue and the simplicity are a winning combination, and just look how appetising those cherries look in there! Perfect for small snack servings, I'd have a whole set for my kitchen.

You can buy these bowls from Skagerak.

10. Muurla Nordic Tray

Ordinarily, a tray is just a tray - a piece of wood for carrying your drinks on. But this is more than just a tray, I mean just look at that bear! I'll let you into a little secret, we have a bit of a thing about bears....don't ask me why! But anything with a graphic bear on it, and we want it. The Muurla Nordic Tray is hand made in Finland and made out of Finnish wood. Due to a special melamine coating, the trays can be used for serving food directly from the surface of the tray, just like an ordinary serving plate. What's not to love! And if you like the bear, check out their other designs too!

You can buy this beauty of a tray from Muurla.
