Our new low-caffeine blend - Maverick Coffee Half Caff

If like us, you drink a fair few brews every day, then our newest coffee might be just what you need. Our Half Caff is a blend containing 50% caffeinated beans from Brazil, India and Ethiopia, and 50% decaf beans from Peru. This is a rich roasted, full bodied coffee with a dark crema with tons of body and flavour. This coffee works really well as the base for milky coffees or as a lovely strong black!

Mountain Water Process Decaffeination

Our Half Caff is composed of 50% Peruvian beans which have been through a mountain water decaffeination process. This unique non-chemical decaffeination process uses the clear waters from the highest mountains to gently remove the caffeine from the green beans.

The process works by immersing the green beans in water in order to extract the caffeine content. The water preserves the soluble flavour components of the green beans and this protects the original characteristics of the coffee.

In order to remove the caffeine from the water containing these soluble flavour elements, the water is passed through a filtration system. This produces a solution comprising the original mountain water and the soluble coffee flavours, now free from caffeine. The resulting green coffee is 99.9% caffeine-free.

**Interesting coffee fact** You'll have heard the term, 'hear the crack' when it comes to coffee roasting. But roasters don't hear the "crack" with decaf coffee, because the crack represents moisture reaching a boiling point inside the bean and pushing through. With a decaf bean, this doesn't occur because the cellular structure of the bean has been changed.
