When we mention a rooibos latte, we often get a lot of confused faces. It seems not many of us have even heard of it before!



Rooibos can only be found on a plant in the Western Cape area of South Africa. It is often regarded as a tea but it is actually classed a herb and is red in colour, which is where is gets it other name of redbush tea.




Rooibos is light and earthy but has a natural sweetness, which makes it a very popular, healthy drink. In South Africa some like to add sugar or honey to finish it off to their desired taste.



It’s rich is anti-oxidant’s and contains minerals such as iron, calcium, zinc, magnesium and copper.

There have been several studies, which uncover the health benefits of drinking rooibos. Some of the health benefits include:

The natural anti-inflammatory found in rooibos is able to balance blood sugar levels which is great for diabetes.

The calcium and magnesium found in rooibos has been shown to improve bone health and the natural fluoride can help to strengthen your teeth and prevent dental decay and cavities.

Although further clinical trials are needed to support this theory, the natural anti-inflammatory qualities are being used in South Africa as an affective way to treat eczema and hayfever.

A survey of seventeen volunteers, found that drinking one single cup of rooibos tea, helped inhibit the angiotensin-converting enzyme.

This enzyme causes our blood pressure to increase by contracting blood vessels. Further research is still needed for more accurate results.

7) It Slows Down Signs of Ageing

The antioxidants present in rooibos tea slow down the aging process and boost the strength of the immune system. Researchers at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in South Africa found that the local herb helps slow down the degeneration of fat cells, which as a result slows down the formation of wrinkles.
